Checking it vs using it

You are welcome to look your kendama over the way you would in a shop. Take it out of the box, hold it with clean hands, look at the build and the finish and the string. You can toss the ken or tama and catch it in your hand to get a feel for the weight. Doing that and then withdrawing is completely fine.

Playing it is different, so don't play it, even carefully. A kendama picks up marks quickly: dents in the tama where the spike lands, wear on the cup edges, paint chipping. That is normal for a played kendama, and our care and wear guide shows what a few sessions actually look like. It also means a played kendama can no longer be sold.

So a kendama you have played gets nothing back. Once it is marked it is worthless to us, and that is the whole reason for the rule. If there is any chance you will keep it, decide before you start playing. We may also hold the refund until your kendama is back with us, or until you show proof you have sent it.
